For the past seven years I have volunteered with Mid City MInistries at their Kid CIty Summer Camp. Kid City Summer Camp is a camp free of charge, allowing families who would not otherwise be able to afford to send their kids to summer camp to make unforgettable memories. I started off as a jr. counselor and have since moved into a leadership role. This entails me guiding other counselors to stay on task by redirecting them to be where they are supposed to be, holding them accountable, and encouraging them to engage with campers because they are the reason we are all there. I also help session leaders with both time management and preparedness, which can look like letting them know we have a certain amount of time to allow for an efficient transition into the next session or preparing all of the activity materials ahead of time to avoid any confusion.
